The last few days have been a giant Oops! I have not exercised since Wednesday because Wed's workout was killer and my legs were having issues. I had surgery on my feet and legs and it has really affected my calves. I can't use them as well as other people. It's really hard for me to get on my tip toes or do anything that requires jumping or anything like it. So the 30 day shred workout was 10 times harder for me since I had to do butt kicks and jumping jacks and jump roping. Wednesday I turned on the video and tried to do the warm up jumping jacks and literally almost fell over. My legs just gave out! I modified the workout and finished it, used the elliptical for a workout, and then did weight circuits by doing poses and holds. It was really hard! Think yoga with weights. I was dying on Thursday morning!
Thursday and Friday we were out and about all day and then I would be alone with kids in the evening while John was getting some things done, so by bedtime I just crawled into bed and zonked. Saturday we did yard work in the morning and then were gone the rest of the day, too.
Eating wise, I had a hard time this week. When I'm super busy, away from home, and really tired, I don't make the best choices. But the good news I went through the fridge and tossed all the bad for me stuff. And I'm getting right back on track today (Sunday). I'm going to exercise today, which I don't normally do, but I've got to to get back on track. We may go to the park and walk laps around the lake. Yes, lake - with fish and everything! It's really pretty and the kids love to go there. So that could be a win-win today.

Just in Time
So last night I started to run while doing my business checks. I ran for a mile in my duty gear, about 25-30 pounds (includes: boots, bullett proof vest with two trauma plates, cuffs, radio, gun, knives, OC, and extra mags.) It was quite the run for one who hasn't ran in a long time. Glad this is started again, I don't have a workout buddy anymore and need the extra motivation to do this alone as we don't have a gym here either.
I'll post more later, but there is a guy on youtube that posts free workouts. His videos are tagged athleanX, his name is JD Cavalier youtube id JDCav24. He is a beast, who has great FAST workouts! Better than P90X I think!

It's time for a change AGAIN
Well Im back and I need to get going.
Today I will think about what challenge I want to set for myself.
Great job Kristen on the work out Im sure if you stay commited you will succeed.
So for me I am looking to do a certain amount of push up and situps in a certain amount of time.
I would also like to start training for the turkey Trot in November so I will be setting some goals in the next couple of days.
Welcome back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update from the weekend
I'm writing this at 9pm right before I do my workout for today. I hate, no loathe, working out at night...but sometimes there is nothing I can do about it!
This weekend went pretty good, all things considered. We went to the State Fair on Friday ($1 admission, awesome!) and I left without getting a funnel cake. I didn't think that was possible, and I was really happy I didn't give in! Saturday I did the 30 day shred and I thought I was gonna die. Then I hopped on the elliptical for 30 minutes on an aerobic level that I hadn't done before and that nearly finished me off. The whole time I was holding on for dear life thinking "I'm gonna die. I'm gonna die!" Actually, I started thinking about when I was in labor with Evelynne and Emmett. I think that their labors were EASIER than that workout. Sounds rediculous? Think again! In labor, my whole focus is on relaxing...every time a contraction would come, I would literally go limp. I laid in a tub, got back rubs, watched movies...it was wonderful compared to Saturday's workout when I was drenched in sweat, trying to keep breathing, and couldn't feel my legs! I think the biggest difference is the frame of mind. In labor, I had to empty my mind and just give in - let my body do it's thing while keeping my mind out of it. Saturday's workout required every ounce of brain power I had! I had to think about every minute of that workout to make it through.
Sunday I took a much needed break. Well, from exercising, anyway. I cooked Emmett a ton of baby food so I was in the kitchen all day. Not much of a break, but still a good use of time! I made a cake and tried a bunch of new recipes. I had one small piece (it was ok) and then gave the rest away.
Monday I didn't work out because John was out with the stomache flu and I was taking care of the kids. I made a dessert for FHE that we didn't have cause John was sick but I tried it anyway. It was delicious, but I still only had one piece. It's in the fridge but I haven't had any today.
This morning I weighed in at 230! I lost 3 pounds last week! I am so excited to see the weight come off. I know my progress is great - steady and slow-but it's still hard not to wish it would come off faster. I have been drinking plenty of water and I've noticed a huge difference in my skin. It's a lot more oily, but also has that "dewy" complexion look that looks so young and beautiful. I'm glad to see such a change just with eating better and drinking water.
I reached one of my goals of not finishing Evelynne's meals for 2 weeks (I used to do it all the time!) so I am supposed to get a pedicure. However, since John is still looking for work, I opted to buy a french manicure paint pen for my nails so I could give myself a manicure. They look great! I love when my nails look nice. It really helps me feel put together and polished. That's all for now. Tonight I'm doing the 30 day shred and another 20 minute work out video just to shake things up.
Talk to you later!

Exercise Log for Kristin
Alright, so since no one has posted on this blog for almost exactly 1 year, I've decided that I'm going to use it as a daily reporting for my exercise journey. I've reached my grossest weight ever of 238 pounds and I can't handle it anymore. I'm going to post each night about the exercise I did, what I ate, how I felt etc. That way everyone knows what my goals are and I'm accountable for my progress.
I started exercising about 2 weeks ago and I've lost 5 pounds. I've been doing the 30 day shred DVD by Jillian Michaels as well as using an elliptical machine that we bought. The "Shred" video has literally kicked my butt! I couldn't even do the entire workout (20 min!) without taking several breaks. Today was better, as I only took one 5 second break. For those of you who don't know what the workout is, it's REALLY hard but it's meant to be - the goal is to lose 20 pounds in 30 days. That's a lot of weight lose, but if you do the video every day and are watching what you eat, I can see it happening. The workout is three 6 min circuits made up of 3 min of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs. There are 3 different levels of difficulty so that you can work your way up and constantly challenge your body. It sounds like no big deal, but if you are out of shape it will kick your trash! I thought because of the strength training that you shouldn't do it every day, but then I looked into it and that's EXACTLY what you are supposed to do!
So, starting yesterday (10/14/10) I will do it every day for 30 days. I weigh in on Tuesdays and I didn't have any weight loss last Tuesday. I'm hoping to see that change next week. I've cut out soda and as many refined carbs/sugars as I can. I'm trying to decide if I want to have a free day one day a week to eat whatever I want, or if I should only have a small something each day. Any thoughts on what would be most beneficial in the long run? Personally, I'd like to cut out the junk and keep it out and make splurging special - ie only on special occasions, not every day or week.
Today I did the shred video level 1 and 20 minutes on the elliptical. According to the display on the elliptical, I burned 300 calories. I've had 1 liter of water so far but I did have a few cookies with Evelynne today when she wanted to have a tea party. I have 2 more liters to drink and lots of fruits and veggies to get in. We are going to the fair later today so I hope I can get them in.
That's it for now . I'll be posting every day to report. Here's a "before" picture:

I'm on the left and my sister, Kari, is on the right. I can't believe what a horrible picture this is of me!
